OH Resources for Public Health Educators - One Health Commission

OH Resources for Public Health Educators

Preface

The following is a list of resources meant to help educators of Masters in Public Health (MPH) programs teach foundational learning objective #12 of Council on Education for Public Health’s (CEPH’s) 2016 accreditation criteria:

"Explain an ecological perspective on the connections among human health, animal health and ecosystem health (eg, One Health)."

More information can be found on pages 16, 30, 33, and 35 of CEPH’s 2016 accreditation criteria. The following resources are not necessarily exclusive to CEPH-accredited programs. In fact, many educators may find them useful.

This resource aims to work with your needs; It aims to help integrate One Health (OH) principles and thinking into what is already being taught. The resources below are suggested ways to incorporate OH into the MPH Core Competency model. They have been curated to synergize with MPH core curricula, as well as program electives and selectives. Resources may be listed in multiple categories.

Additional Resources

As mentioned above, this resource is structured around the ASPPH core competencies. A parallel resource document, formatted around the University of Washington’s Center for One Health Research ECOHAB framework, is also available. ECOHAB (Exposure, Comparative, Occupational, Human-Animal Bond, Agriculture and Food, and Biodiversity) is an acronym for the One Health connections between Human, Animal, and Ecosystem Health.

The resources compiled here also consider frameworks used in several Masters in One Health programs (see also). There are many scholarly works attempting to harmonize such frameworks of OH education and these publications have been consulted as well. Educators in Masters of Global Health or Veterinary Public Health programs may also find this compilation of resources useful. The latter may find the environmentally-focused sections particularly useful.,

A number of materials included here were created by Southeast Asia’s and Africa’s OH university networks (SEAOHUN & AFROHUN, respectively) in collaboration with USAID. They are made freely available with proper attribution. Also included are resources compiled by the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH).

This resource is structured in accordance with the results of a survey of public health administrators and faculty indicating the types of resources preferred by and for educators in MPH programs.
