Hosted by University of California, Davis Grand Challenges and the School of Veterinary Medicine. The current Avian Influenza crisis has impacted agriculture, wildlife, conservation, and public health and is a planetary emergency requiring rapid action. This event aimed to inform policy and inspire coordinated action on combating Avian Influenza. Through a One Health approach a pathway for cross-sector collaboration in infectious disease preparedness and response efforts was developed. Anticipated outcomes of the consultation include:
Increase awareness of the current Avian Influenza situation and guidance on the threat
Exchange best practices for operationalizing a One Health approach and development of enabling actions for integration across sectors for further consideration
Guidance for facilitation of government-university-private institution collaborations
Surveillance and prevention strategies (with special attention to at-risk populations)
Consideration of need for national and state policies and actions
Guidance for preparedness plans including stockpiling of necessary resources and vaccine development
Tracking and response to early alerts in response to H5N1 and other emerging threats
